Elston Turner from Texas A&M has won StatSheet's SEC Player of the Week for January 14th. StatSheet's SEC Freshman of the Week is Kentucky's Nerlens Noel.
Turner was the best in the SEC in scoring (27.5 pts per game) and three pointers (4.5 per game). He also registered 60% shooting, 3 assists per game, and 7 rebounds per game. The Texas A&M senior played well for the Aggies in victories versus Arkansas and Kentucky.
Turner contributed 15 points on 50% shooting in 34 minutes in a 69-51 win over Arkansas. He followed that up with a team-leading 40 points plus an additional 4 assists in an 83-71 win over Kentucky.
This is the first time this season that Elston Turner has been selected StatSheet SEC Player of the Week. The runner-up this week is senior Murphy Holloway from Ole Miss. Honorable mention goes to junior Marshall Henderson from Ole Miss. Jabari Brown, who finished fifth, was the highest ranking player from Missouri.
StatSheet SEC Freshman of the Week: Kentucky's Nerlens Noel
Nerlens Noel was on the floor an average of 36 minutes starting both games for Kentucky. He was number one among all SEC freshmen in rebounding (9.0 per game), assists (3.0 per game), and blocked shots (5.0 per game). In a late 60-58 win over Vanderbilt, Noel chalked up 13 points on 75% shooting. In an 83-71 loss to Texas A&M, he led all rebounding with 11 and also put up 7 blocked shots.
This is a repeat honor for Nerlens Noel, making it the second time he has won StatSheet SEC Freshman of the Week. Alex Caruso from Texas A&M gets runner-up. Michael Frazier II from Florida receives honorable mention. Missouri players have been named StatSheet SEC Player of the Week 2 times this season.
